Book Tour Part IV: Los Angeles, California

I'm a little behind with my blog, so don't mind my playing catchup this week!

On Friday, April 20, I flew to LA for the LA Times Festival of Books (April 21-22) with my lovely assistant, Zan.

It was a weekend of firsts: my first time at a book festival, first time being a published author, and first time I’ve had the opportunity to meet my publishers, Holly Kammier and Jessica Therrien, from Acorn Publishing. I also met two other fellow Acorn authors, Ramcy Diek and Agnès Déglones.

The weekend was a wonderful experience. I spoke with many festival attendees, sharing my experience as well as practicing the art of book selling at the Acorn booth (which was right next to best-selling children's author Gary Soto!). I sold a number of books and made amazing west coast connections!

The highlight of my weekend was seeing some old friends, including Annie Cho and Judy Mansfield, a former teacher I met on a trip to Canada.

LA was hot (I got a bit sunburnt) and the traffic was something I am pleased I don't live with on a daily basis...but it was definitely worth the haul.

Next post: my time in Frostburg, Maryland!

Cheers!
